Lillian Cawdrey
Lillian Cawdrey, the co-owner of the Fremont Health Club, was motivated by the pandemic that struck the region. After a career in architecture and interior design, she decided to pursue her passion for helping people navigate their fitness journeys. Now, the health club is open twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Its cardio and strength machines are neatly arranged in rows, and exercisers fill the studios for group classes.
Cawdrey’s commitment to the community has led her to offer refunds and paused memberships to former members. The landlord was understanding and made flexibility in her lease agreement. Many members have said they will come back, but they have lost jobs. The club is also offering discounts and refunds to members, despite the difficulties. Despite the hardships, Cawdrey remains a staunch advocate of her customers.

In a new survey by TD Ameritrade, 59% of American adults say they won’t renew their gym memberships after the pandemic ends. They’ve found cheaper alternatives. While most of them spend at least $2,000 a year, a large segment of those respondents is struggling to pay for their gym memberships. Tricia Cawdrey, owner of the Fremont Health Club, was able to start a business on the back of this crisis.
After a long career in architecture and interior design, Cawdrey decided to pursue her passion for helping others navigate their fitness journeys. The result is a health club that combines a welcoming environment with supportive community. Cawdrey hopes the Fremont Health Club will continue to flourish in the future. Lillian Cawdrey’s family
Since the 1950s, Dan and Lillian Cawdrey’s families have owned the site. Dan’s father built the Roman Brick building on the site. Then, in 1985, Dan took over the property, which was previously home to the Fremont Public Association offices and a food bank. The family’s decision to sell the building to an investor in 2002 prompted a flurry of activity in the area.
Lillian Cawdrey’s fitness center opened in April 2012 in space previously occupied by Anytime Fitness, grocery stores and pharmacies. The Fremont Health Club is run by the Cawdrey family, which also owns Fremont Village Square. Cawdrey explains that the move to clean up the gym was inspired by her desire to help others navigate their fitness journeys.
